Info
Proportional effects are card effects that consume the player`s available mana and have their effects increased in proportion.
All current proportional effects are found on "Forbidden" cards (mostly spells with a mana Cost of 0) and work by consuming all available mana when played.
Strategy
- Players can determine how much mana to spend on a proportional effect by expending mana in other ways first, leaving a smaller amount remaining for the proportional effect to consume.
- Proportional effect cards cannot be followed with the playing of any other cards in the same turn, unless they are 0-Mana cards (e.g. Moonfire Moonfire Set: Basic Type: Spell Class: Druid Cost: 0 Abilities: Deal damage Deal 1 damage."Cast Moonfire, and never stop." - How to Be a Druid, Chapter 5, Section 3See this card on Hearthpwn data page] , Target Dummy Target Dummy Set: Goblins vs Gnomes Type: Minion Subtype: Mech Rarity: Rare Cost: 0 Attack: 0 Health: 2 Abilities: Taunt TauntThe engineering equivalent of a "Kick Me" sticker.See this card on Hearthpwn data page] Target ), or following regaining Mana through effects such as The Coin The Coin Set: Basic Type: Spell Cost: 0 Tags: Mana-related Gain 1 Mana Crystal this turn only.See this card on Hearthpwn data page] The Coin is a special uncollectible spell card granted at the start or Innervate Innervate Set: Basic Type: Spell Class: Druid Cost: 0 Tags: Mana-related Gain 2 Mana Crystals this turn only. Some druids still have flashbacks from strangers yelling "Innervate me!!" at them.See this card on Hearthpwn data page] . This makes it wise to carefully assess the desired sequence of events, make use of your Hero Power Anduin Wrynn with the basic priest Hero Power Lesser Heal A Hero Power is a special ability displayed to the right of each hero s portrait. Usually Hero Powers can be used once per turn and and possibly play other cards, before finally playing the proportional effect card.

Notes
- Playing a card with a proportional effect consumes mana in two separate ways: one is the mana Cost of the card itself, the other is the card`s "Spend all your Mana" text.
- Effects which trigger based on the Cost of a spell or minion will count the Cost of the card itself, not including any mana consumed by the proportional effect.
- Example: If you have 10 mana and Atiesh Atiesh Set: One Night in Karazhan Type: Weapon Cost: 3 Attack: 1 Durability: 3 Abilities: Summon Tags: Cost-related, Durability-related, Random, Triggered effect After you cast a spell, summon a randomminion of that Cost.Lose 1 Durability.See this equipped, playing Forbidden Flame Forbidden Flame Set: Whispers of the Old Gods Type: Spell Class: Mage Rarity: Epic Cost: 0 Abilities: Deal damage Tags: Mana-related, Proportional effect Spend all your Mana. Deal that much damage to a minion.WARNING: This will deal 10 damage but still summon a 0-Cost minion.
- Example: Playing Forbidden Ancient Forbidden Ancient Set: Whispers of the Old Gods Type: Minion Class: Druid Rarity: Epic Cost: 1 Attack: 1 Health: 1 Abilities: Battlecry Tags: Mana-related, Proportional effect Battlecry: Spend all your Mana. - The mana Cost of a card with a proportional effect can be modified as usual by Cost-modification The mana cost of a card or Hero Power determines how much mana is required to play that card from the hand or to use that Hero Power. The number is displayed inside a blue effects.
- The Cost of a card cannot be negative: thus, Cost-reduction effects like Sorcerer`s Apprentice Sorcerer s Apprentice Set: Classic Type: Minion Class: Mage Rarity: Common Cost: 2 Attack: 3 Health: 2 Abilities: Modify cost Tags: Ongoing effect, Spell-related Your spells cost (1) less.Apprentices are great for bossing around. "Conjure me would usually have no effect on Forbidden spells (since they already cost 0 mana), but they can contrast Cost-increasing effects like Loatheb Loatheb Set: Naxxramas Type: Minion Rarity: Legendary Cost: 5 Attack: 5 Health: 5 Abilities: Battlecry, Modify cost Tags: Spell-related Battlecry: Enemy spells cost (5) more next turn.Loatheb used to be a simple Bog Beast. This .
- Cost-modification effects cannot alter the proportional effect itself, since this does not have a Cost but simply consumes all available mana.
- After the Cost of a card with a proportional effect has been paid, all the player`s remaining available mana Mana is the resource used in Hearthstone to play cards and use Hero Powers, each of which has a mana cost that must be paid to use it. The supply of mana is represented by will be consumed as part of its effect, and the card`s effect will be increased in proportion.

This would still leave the caster with 0 mana, but would only summon a 5-Cost minion.

Trivia
- Proportional effects currently represent the only effects that consume the player`s mana. Mana is normally consumed by the base cost of playing a card or using a Hero Power.
